How to Manage Multiple Telegram Accounts

Posted on

If you’re using Telegram Messenger, you’re one of the hundreds of millions of users around the world trying to get the most out of your service. Telegram is a handy communication app that lets you get all your email accounts in one place on all your devices while protecting your messages.

However, as Telegram became more popular, users needed multiple accounts. For example, you might have discovered Telegram at work and wanted to try it out with your personal email account. However, if you create more than one Telegram account, you will face the same issues that most apps have in common. Switching between these accounts can be difficult on your favorite phone, laptop, or other device.

The mobile app makes it easy to move between Telegram accounts. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t set it up on a Windows 10 or Mac device. This guide will guide you through the steps to add and manage multiple Telegram accounts.

Problems with multiple Telegram accounts

Generally, you will need a phone number for each Telegram account. If you have a work account and a personal account, that’s probably not a problem. Just use your work number and personal number.

However, if you need a third account, or if you have only one phone number, you will need an additional number each time you set up an additional account. The best way to do this is to use a service that offers a free phone number. It requires a bit of extra work, but you only need to do this part once.

After setting up an account, the biggest problem with multiple Telegram accounts is switching accounts. Whether you’re accessing from an Android, iOS device, PC, or Mac, you’ll need to sign out and sign in to each account individually.

How to manage multiple Telegram accounts using Shift

Managing multiple Telegram accounts is easy on your mobile device. However, if you’re using it for your desktop, Shift is the easiest way for a variety of reasons. You can set up an account in a few simple steps, but you can also host the icons side by side in a convenient toolbar.

However, the best reason to use Shift for your messaging app is that you don’t have to log in or out to switch accounts. Once you’ve set up each shortcut, all you have to do is move between the shortcuts throughout the day to see and respond to your messages. You can even switch between multiple Gmail, Slack, Trello, and WhatsApp accounts without having to enter a password or username. Click here for a complete list of apps supported by Shift.

How to add a Telegram account on Windows 10

Once you have your phone number, you’re ready to set up your Telegram account. The easiest way to manage multiple accounts on your PC is to download Shift for Windows. Then click Download Now and wait for the file to download. When you’re done, double-click the file to install it. Shift will start automatically, and you can add each Telegram account as a separate icon. Detailed instructions on setting Shift can be found here.

Otherwise, Windows 10 doesn’t support multiple accounts, and you need a workaround to use Telegram. As explained in this video, the steps are as follows:

  • Find the Telegram directory.
  • Copy Telegram.exe to create a shortcut on your desktop.
  • Rename the shortcut to something that you can easily identify.
  • C: Go to the root folder and create a new folder for your second Telegram account.

How to Add Telegram Accounts on MacOS

If you want to add a second account to your Mac device, you need to download this version of Telegram first. From there, Shift is the easiest way to add a Telegram account to your Mac. However, if you are used to writing apps on your device, you can do the following instead:

  • Create a folder here: ~/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/{{MyUsername}}
  • Open the PLC.
  • Click on Application to create a new application.
  • Add AppleScript by dragging and dropping from the left side of the screen.
  • Add the following text. doshellscript “Applications/Telegram.app/Contents/MacOS/Telegram
  • workdir’/Users/{{your_user}}/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/{{MyUsername}}'”
  • Created / Applications / Telegram {{MyUsername}}. Save in app.
  • Create an icon for your new application.

If you want an easier way, just download Telegram, download Shift for Mac and add the Telegram icon as a separate icon for each account.

How to Add a Telegram Account on Mobile

The first step in setting up an additional Telegram account is deciding which phone number to use. If you run out of your personal and work numbers, check if anyone knows a number you don’t use in Telegram. You may be able to use the phone number of the spouse or a close friend or relative who does not plan to use Telegram.

As long as you have a Google account, Google Voice is the best way to get a free number. It’s free and you don’t need to use the number for any other purpose. Even better, you can choose your Google Voice number based on your area code.

If you use this number regularly, you can get a free US or Canadian phone number from TextNow. Just download the app and select the number. The downside of TextNow is that you rarely need to make phone calls or send text messages. If the number remains inactive for a period of time, it will be assigned to someone else. Telegram connections are not counted as activity.

Adding a Telegram account to your mobile device is easy. However, you are limited to three accounts. To add an account to your Android or iOS device, follow these steps:

  • Open the Telegram app.
  • Tap Settings > Profile details > Add account.
  • Enter an emergency phone number to associate with your account.
  • Verify the phone number by SMS or phone.

How to Manage Notifications for Multiple Telegram Accounts

Telegram will automatically notify you when there is new activity in your Telegram account. Unless you change it, you will receive notifications for all accounts. To adjust the notifications, go to the settings for each connection and select Notifications and Customize. Here, you can turn off notifications and customize the alerts you receive.

If you’ve used Shift to set up multiple Telegram accounts, you can customize your notifications using the other messaging apps you’re using. To customize notifications with Shift, follow these steps for each account.

  • Go to Options, Settings, General, and Features.
  • ¬†Scroll to see notifications.
  • ¬†Enable or disable notifications.

Shift notifications overwrite everything you set in your individual Telegram account settings. The best thing about this feature is that if you want to turn off all notifications for the day, you can do it in one place and turn it back on when you’re ready to resume normal activity.
